The Service No. 1 Kukuri also known as the Sarkari Kukuri that holds significants military and emotional value among the Gurkha Soilders. It is issued to Gurkha soldiers at the start of their career and is retained by them throughout their services. The knife is regularly inspected by officers and used for both ceremonial parades and practical field duties, such as chopping woods, clearing bushes and generally utility task.
The blade is typically 10.5 inches long hand forged from high grade carbon steel, and highly polished. The handle is usually made from buffalo horn and features rat tail tang design for durability. The khukri comes with a scabbard, often made of wood wrapped in leather and includes two smaller utility knives: the karda (for small task like cutting paper or skinning) and the chakmak (a blunt steel for sharpening the main blade or striking sparks from the flints).
